Zanzibar Serena Inn

Location:
Situation: Zanzibar Serena Inn is scenically located on Shangani Point in Stone Town, just 10 minutes from the airport.

Zanzibar Serena Inn located in the legendary Stone Town of Zanzibar, the island whose very name evokes East Africa's exotic past, stands Zanzibar Serena Inn. It has joined the ranks of the world's finest resorts as a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. This stunning property is set in two historic seafront buildings that have been masterfully restored to their previous grandeur, when Zanzibar was a crossroads visited by travelers and merchants from all corners of the globe.

Interiors echo Zanzibar's rich Arabic influence - or ustaarabu - as well as the island's indigenous East African roots. Each of the 51 en-suite Ivory Class rooms is elegant and romantic, overlooking the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. An extensive selection of recreation and watersport activities are available to guests. Visits to Stone Town's historical landmarks and excursions to neighboring islands and wildlife reserves are made daily.

The guest rooms at Zanzibar Serena Inn are romantic, elegant, exceptionally comfortable and welcoming. Each is appointed with details, artwork and furnishings that reflects Zanzibar's storied heritage. All rooms are air-conditioned and overlook the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The hotel's restaurant sits atop the sea wall and faces the Indian Ocean with unobstructed views of mainland Tanzania. A team of chefs creates sumptuous meals which are served in convivial surroundings.

Local seafood is a specialty, the variety matched only by the imaginative use of Zanzibar's local herbs and spices used in its preparation.

The service is warm, personal, and attentive.

Accommodation:
You can enjoy a sea view and all the mod cons you would expect to find in an upmarket hotel. The en-suite bedrooms have a mini-bar, air conditioner, satellite television with in-house movies, telephone, hairdryer and safe.

The rooms are decorated with taste and elegance using reproduction Zanzibari furniture, rather than the genuine antiques found in many of the other Stone Town hotels. The dark wood of the furnishings is offset by the cheerful blue and yellow tones of the bedspreads and curtains.

The hotel comprises 51 rooms, including a state suite, two executive suites, six prime suites and one honeymoon suite. The prime and honeymoon suites have their own hammocks on the balcony.

Dining:
The restaurant has huge windows which open out to the Indian ocean and mainland Tanzania. Try to book one of the tables close to the window. By day you can gaze at the dhows plying the blue water and in the evenings you can watch the lanterns of the distant fishing boats dancing on the water. The restaurant service is friendly, efficient and professional.

You can dine on traditional Swahili cuisine as well as a range of international dishes in the Baharia restaurant. Lobster, crab and fish are usually on the menu, as are fresh fruit and vegetables. Zanzibars herbs and spices are used creatively to tantalise the taste buds.

The Masahari Bar offers an atmospheric place to mingle before dinner and play a game of cards. If you are after tea and cake during the day, the Mdele coffee shop has a good selection.

You can also take a trip out to the hotels beach, 30 minutes away, at Mangapwani where you can enjoy a barbeque under shady palms as well as watersports.
